I was listening a story about Mahendra Baba ji from my father...in 1957 my father missed a call letter my grandfather's new joining in a Goverment School Bandikui (Rajasthan)..my grandfather (Shri Badriprasad Sharma 'Prem Kavi') short temper..so my grand mother decided to send my father to meet Mahendra Baba ji...My father went to Lohvan bagicha (garden). (Lohvan bagicha (garden) is a favourite place of Mahendra Baba ji. Mahendra Baba ji always stayed on that place)...on that time Mahendra Baba ji was going to 'Raval'. Raval is a birth place of goddess Radharani..it's very near from lohvan. My father Harikishan Sharma, Hubblal Mahashay, and Ramesh pujari ji also went to Raval with them, after reached there Mahendra Baba ji went to take bath in Yamuna river...there was shamshan place..my father said Baba ji here is shamshan (Crematorium) so don't take bath ..Baba ji said Lord Shiva used to take such type of bath ..so don't mind...in fact Mahendra Baba ji also incarnation of Lord Shiva...
Baba ji ordered meal for devotee and said, for your food is preparing and for me you have to go to in village (Raval) beg food for me. Baba ji said do you know how to beg. You have to go villager's home then you must say Radhe..if once refuse than don't ask them..my father Harikishan Sharma, Hubblal Mahashay and Ramesh pujari ji went for begging..than called one villager's home 'Radhe' heard this word one old lady come out of home..and said you are so young why are you begging? Then my father said, don't talk like this because we are begging for Mahendra Baba ji (mentor). For us have prepared food (halwa, puri) then went to ahead. Next villagers gave us roti and matha (bread and buttermilk ) than they came back to Baba ji..Baba ji had taken food. This is delicious food . Father was saying when Baba ji gave your food as a prasad sooo delicious..I could not describe by words. After that Baba ji said to my father (Baba ji knows something wrong with my father because Baba ji was an Omniscient). Baba ji told my father if your father is angry at you because he wants to teach you how to live life..so don't mind..when you will be back home every thing will be ok..in the evening my father back home found call letter home and my father's family was happy.. A Nandi

Shri Mahendra Baba ji e Shri Haidakhan Baba
Shri Mahendra Baba ji e Shri Haidakhan Baba

In 1970 Haidakhan Baba ji said to his disciples that Shri Mahendra Baba ji was the incarnation of Goddess Amba , among those disciples my father was also present.. Once Shri Mahendra Baba ji was going from Lohvan to Vrindavan on foot. This fact dated 1940 - 1942 circa at evening ... This story told by my grandfather Master Badriprasad Sharma to my father Harikishan Sharma. Shri Mahendra Baba ji and his disciples were going through a strange route ... when they reached a place that had four streets .. They did not know which road would lead them to Vrindavan. A disciple told Shri Mahendra Baba that he did not know which road would lead to Vrindavan because most people did not use that road. In the meantime it was getting dark ... no one could see it anymore. Shri Mahendra Baba ji told his disciples to pray Bhole Baba (Lord Shiva)," Bhole Baba will show us the way". Shri Mahendra Baba, for the first time, uttered this verse: "Shankar daya ki murti ho phir der ita ni kion karo Dainya dukha duvidha haro Karuna karo Karuna karo ..... " (Suddenly all this composition was composed) These verses will then be used during the Arati. While they were praying suddenly came a Nandi (shiva's bull). Shri Mahendra Baba ji said "Bhole Baba ji had sent a Nandi (Lord Shiva's ride) to help us and this Nandi would show us the way". Shri Mahendra Baba ji asked this Nandi to show him the way to Vrindavan and so with a nod of his head, they came to Vrindavan. The disciples of Shri Mahendra Baba ji told the story of seeing this Nandi coming suddenly and then disappearing after showing them the right way. (Ramakant Sharma)

Chaurasi Kos travels

Shri Mahendra Babaji
Shri Mahendra Babaji

Mahendra Babaji liked Lohavan and wherever he went he had used to call himself a Lohavan resident. Returning from a pilgrimage to the Himalaya finally he came to Lohavan and he used to say that we too are Lohavania, (Lohavan residents). Lohavan Dham is so favorite place because it is located in the middle of the Braj Bhumi area. Depart in the morning after visiting the sights of Barsana, Nandgaon, Dauji etc. and return the evening to Lohavan. The ancient name of Lohvan, used for a long time, was Loh Jangh Van, (The iron battle forest), because here was the battle of Lord Shri Krishna against Lohashur (Iron body demon), a powerful demon evil demon where Lord Shri Krishna killed him. This forest is part of the twelve forests of the Brij Bhumi region. The Chaurasi Kos travels (168 miles travel) would not be successful without coming to Lohavan. People traveling from various countries come here to visit it. Here is the temple of Gopinath ji, the Saptrishi cave (seven saints) where the seven saints practiced penance and other temples. Mahendra Babaji also came here and he used to live in the garden of Lohavan while at night lived in Krishna kund cave. After a while Shri Mahendra Babaji lived in Radhanikunj, this was situated in the centre of Lohavan. Shri Mahendra Babaji used to say we liked Lohavan too because when we came here nobody asked us where we came from and when we were traveling than nobody even asked if you had money or not. Like a mirror

Shri Haidakhan Baba
Shri Haidakhan Baba

When my father heard of the appearance of Bhole Baba in 1970, Haidakhan Baba was in the cave after he had been 45 days on Mount Kailash performing austerities. My father in those days accompanied the railway staff and had gone to Haidakhan along with Girijashankar Gupta, RK Gupta, Chandra Vihari, Rameshwar and others but it was too dark to reach Haidakhan from Haldwani on the same day so they decided to stay one night at Ramsingh ji house. Ramsingh ji was a devotee of Baba ji in Ukhal Dunga. The next day they left at 7 am and arriving in Haidakhan at 9 am.
Baba ji had golden hair and the Dhuni burned in front of the cave while the devotees sang kirtan.
My father, while he was visiting Babaji, suddenly thought: "Baba, I have not come to examine you, who has not passed any examination, what will it take for you?"
The train staff that my father had accompanied to Haidakhan began to have some suspicion if he were Haidakhan Baba ji or not so my father told them that they would recognize Haidakhan Baba with their own eyes, their faith and their feeling and that they had to leave him alone. After that my father went to sit on the other side.
At about 8 pm Baba ji was sitting next to Dhuni and inside a Lota, (small round metal pot), there was the milk kept on the Dhuni which was very hot. Baba ji took the milk holding the hot Lota in his hands and my father began to think that once, in the SambSadaShiv Kunj in Vrindavan, Shri Parama Guru Mahinder Baba ji had drunk the water from the Lota. Then my father thought that Baba would give him some water from the Lota and suddenly Mahendra Babaji called my father and gave him water. Bhole Baba also gave him some milk as prasad and Baba said unexpectedly: "Hari came here and offered me milk as prasad", my father did not tell Bhole Baba and anyone else that his name was Hari Kishan. All this happened by suddenly. Than, Baba said, "Whoever comes here will be happy and will take my love and trust, no one will doubt me and tomorrow they will all come with me on the journey of Siddheshwar." (From my father Hari Kishan Sharma)

Spiritual power

Shri Haidakhan Baba
Shri Haidakhan Baba

(Second part)
Babaji addressed everyone saying: "Tomorrow we will go to Mount Siddheshwar wearing shoes and sandals", along the road the soil is full of thorny bushes. The journey to Siddheshwar began in the morning. After walking for a while along the way, the devotees of Bhole Baba used to stop and drink tea from Chandramani who was also a devotee of Babaji. There were about 25-30 devotees together with Babaji and they all walked along the rocky and thorny road. The road was very difficult to travel, the crossroads were rough and scattered. Babaji wore nothing on his feet along those thorny ways and seemed to me a source of pride. Babaji walked ahead of us and we followed him all behind. Babaji moving very fast and showed us a mountain and said: "The worship of Lord shiva is done in Vrindavan, that is the Shiva Lingam of SambaSadaShiva and there is a small water pond on this mountain but the shiv lingam never submerge in water completely. It is a miracle in itself. This Shiva Lingam was founded by Devguru Brahspati ji".
Further on there was a stone ladder and everyone found relief by climbing it, after a while everyone began to sweat and suffer thirst and hunger. When we all reached Mount Siddheshwar the landscape was wonderful.
At the top of the palace was a Havan Kund and a tongs in the Dhuni of Shri Haidakhan Baba.
It was a very difficult situation for all of us being very thirsty and hungry. In that place there was a beautiful grass and Babaji ordered my father: "Come here Hari and take this herb, it is material for the Havan".
In fact, when the grass was uprooted, a very good smell came out and so my father brought this herb to Babaji. Babaji asked if anyone had something to eat and my father said, "I have dates." They were about 100 grams of dates and another devotee gave him an orange. Babaji took the orange and dates in his hands and repeated the mantra in his mind and placed them in Havan.
Suddenly the fire burned and inside the Dhuni, (Havan Kund), an absolutely fresh ash was generated. All around there was a thick forest.
A devotee had a little water. Baba put some of that water in the fire and as soon as Babaji poured it into the fire, all the thirst and hunger disappeared and a sense of freshness came to everyone. Baba showed us the mountain DevaGuru in front of him that told him about Siddheshwar. Babaji said that the deities arrive here in NavDurga by playing the Drums whose voices come down and he also said that kailash mountain is 2 feet and 6 inches tall compared to the Siddheswar.
No one had more doubts and everyone believed that he was old Haidakhan Babaji..after that baba ji came dawn very fast and we had taken tea again devotee Chandramani. (By my father Harikishan sharma)

Shri Haidakhan Babaji appears in the form of light

Shri Haidakhan Baba
Shri Haidakhan Baba

In February 1958, a great arrangement was greatly noticeable in Kathgharia, Haldwani, Nainital in for the installation of an idol of Haidakhan Babaji in Haidakhan Babaji Temple. My father also wanted to go there but my grandfather, Badriprashad Sharma (Prem Kavi) who was a railway school teacher of Bandikui, could not get money at that time. So in that situation, my father was thinking of Mahendra Baba and said to himself that everybody will go there except me. Then a woman of the village (Lohvan), namely Mahadevi came to my father in the evening and asked if he would go there (Kathghariya ) or not. Then my father told her no as he had no rent. Then the woman told him that she would gave him money but she wanted to go with him.

At that time, the rent of Haldwani from Mathura was six rupees. Then my father reached at Kathghariya with that woman. my father and chandr bihari sang the lyrics of Sambasadashiv Charitamrit which was composed by Vishnu Dutt Shastriji. My father was also making sound by plunking pots at the time of singing and Shashtriji translated the lyrics into Hindi.

22rd February (vikram samvat 1914 falgun shukl paksh ki chaturthi) before a day of installation of an idol of Haidakhan Babaji in Kathghariya Ashram, on one Saturday night around 11'o clock, a circle of divine light was seen by one thousand devotees. At that time, my father Harikishan sharma sat under a tree with Lakshman Singh who was king of Ambaji and also with Dr. Ramgopalji. And within a few distance a devotee of Neemkaroli Baba sat under an another tree and he was burning a fire (dhuni). People was very surprised to see that a circle of divine light was appeared and then wearing kurta and topa Haidakhan Baba was seen in the center of that divine light . At that time people could not believe their eyes. He (Haidakhan Babaji) was 4-5ft above the ground. When the devotees came near to Him, He gone upwards. Devotees sang a kirtan, saying " Chandrashekhar! Chandrashekhar! Pahi mam..." and tried to touch Him. Then Haidakhan Babaji entered into the temple by making some circulation around the Banian tree. In that temple, there was an idol of Haidakhan Babaji and a small bed for Him. Then He kept His divine feet on that bed until the crowd of people entered there. Then after their coming, Babaji left the temple and lifted upwards. Thus He went to Haidakhan at the straight direction of Mount Kailash through the skyway. My father, Vishnu Dutt Shastriji, Girdhari lal Mishr (Judge), Chandr bihari gupta, Girjashankar gupta, Mishrilal, Devicharan Bohre, Kanhyalal, pandit Ramgopl, Hubblal mahashay, Bankelal Bhagat, Devkinandan mahashay, Kapoori devi, Muniya devi and so many devotees who were the witness of that divine incident. During that incident, in a room, Mahendra Baba was engaged with a tailor Ramchandra who was tailoring at that time for making garment for the divine statue of Babaji. Hearing that outcry, when Mahendra Baba came out from the room, Babaji had already gone. Then Mahendra Baba went to the temple where he found the divine white footprint of Haidakhan Babaji on that small bed of that temple.Next day on sunday almost 50 thousand people took prasad in Bhandara After that Mahendra Baba paved that divine footprint within a glass frame and then brought that bed of framed footprint and idol of haidakhan baba ji into the temple of Sambasada Shiv Kunj, virandawan at the time of its establishment in 1958. From then people took divine darshan of the idol of Haidakhan Babaji along with the framed footprint on the bed for many years. (By Harikishan sharma, Lohvan, Mathura)

On a pilgrimage

Haidakhan Baba and Mahendra Maharaj
Haidakhan Baba and Mahendra Maharaj

In May 1965, Mahendra Charanashrita Babaji installed an idol of Devi Durga in the temple of Kathghariya Dham. At the time, disciples of Mahendra Baba were present. Lakshman Singh who was king of Abu Mount Ambaji, my father Harikishan Sharma, Girija Shankar Gupta, R.K. Gupta, Mishrilal Gupta, Dr. Ramgopal,Rameshwar, Prahlad pathak (from Ahmedabad), Ramgopal (postmaster) and Bankelal Pathak were there with more devotees. After the religious ceremony of installing and activating the murti, another religious ceremony called a Bhandara, a religious feast, was arranged. Thousands of devotees received prasad. After Bhandara, Mahendra Baba made the decision for a journey to Shitala Khet Siddhashram. Shortly thereafter, Girija Shankar Gupta said to my father, "We will go to Siddhashram. Two buses have been reserved. The price per ticket is 100 rupees." Upon hearing this my father realized he could not go on the trip because of his financial insufficiency but told no one. He began to think to himself that if he had sufficient money, he should go on the journey but at the time only had enough to return to Mathura. When Raja Lakshman Singh, Girija Shankar Gupta and Dr. Ramgopal went to Haldwani to reserve the buses, Raja Laxman Singh checked the list of people who were going and didn't find the name of my father. He told Girija Shankar Gupta to write the name of Harikishan Sharma on the list but Girija Shankar told him my father didn't have the money. When Raja Lakshman Singh heard this, he said, "No. He will go," and took 100 rupees from his own pocket, paying for my father's ticket. When returning from Haldwani, Girija Shankar Gupta said, "Brother! When I asked for the fare, you denied my request saying I wouldn't go on the trip! The next moment you gave the money to Raja Laxman Singh." My father smiled and remained silent, understanding that this is the Lila (Play of Divine). The next morning, people started their journey and arrived in Shitala Khet at 5 p.m. After that, Mahendra Maharaj went to Sri Shiromani Pathak's house and took a rest for sometime.

Sri Shiromani Pathak ji passed away a long time ago. His son took my father and other devotees to Siddhashram through the yard of apple which was his own. At that time, a sadhu (hallow) lived there in the disguise of Haidiakhan Babaji. Mahendra Baba yelled at him and said, "You are pretending to be Haidiakhan Babaji Maharaj!!! Shame on you." Then this fraud person took his belongings from the room where Babaji used to live and left. Afterwards, Mahendra Baba decided to stay there in that particular room of Babaji. In the front of the room was a temple of Shiva. The devotees stayed at one's own sweet will, here and there. What a beautiful and peaceful atmosphere there was!!! Two deodar (pine) trees named Nar and Narayan were there which had been planted by Haidiakhan Babaji. Babaji brought out a stream through the pressure of the tip of his thumb on a rock. This stream was nearby. The next morning, everybody took their bath in the water of that sacred stream.

Mahendra Maharaj advised my father Hari Kishan Sharma, Raja Laxman Singh and Dr. Ramgopal to go to visit the nearest cave. So they went toward their destination as specified by Mahendra Baba. In the course of their journey, as they had began wondering how long they had to go... suddenly, they saw a boy of 12-14 years come their way. They asked the boy about the cave and he said he would take them to it. After some time they reached the cave and the boy said, "The path to this cave comes out to a particular place, Padam boree. Haidiakhan Babaji and Sombari Baba have come here through this particular way. Sometimes, a tiger comes through here and nobody has the power to use the path."

15 feet ahead, in the cave, there was a well of water which was 2 ft in its height with a depth of water of 1 ft. The boy said Babaji Maharaj took the water of that well to wash after defecation. No scarcity of water had ever been found in the well. Nobody knows how it was filled up. The boy was asked his name and he answered, "Radhe." That particular name "Radhe" is found in the book "Anupam Kripa" where it is said that Mahendra Baba followed a boy in the course of his journey whose name was also Radhe. They asked Radhe to say something about Haidiakhan Babaji. He said that there was a tree on which suddenly a bird came from somewhere and it began to say something in its own language. And then a tiger skin instantaneously appeared, spread under the tree, and sitting on it was Haidakhan Babaji, clearly visible. After speaking, Radhe walked toward his village down the hill and they went directly to Siddhashram. In the evening, Mahendra Baba ordered them to take rest and stay at the junior high school which was up the hill. On the third day everybody came down from there to take their bath but at that time Pralhad Pathak's wife was experiencing great pain in her knees. She couldn't walk anymore and sat there. My father and Pathak ji tried to help her down the path from there but they forgot the actual route to the ashram. They became puzzled as they were roaming here and there after forgetting the right path. They became quite anxious. Then they saw a person was coming to where they were. This man asked, "Where are you going?" Pathak Ji said that they were going to the ashram but they had lost their way. The person said, "This is not the right path to the ashram. I will show you the right path." After walking some distance with them, this person pointed the way and said to them, "Follow this straight downward path. You will arrive there." So they began to walk downwards but when they looked behind them, the man was no where to be found. When they told Mahendra Baba about the whole incident, he smiled. After some time, Mahendra Baba ordered everybody to go to visit the temple of Syahi Devi. After they arrived, they received darshan of Syahi Devi. There was a big well from where they drank water. Thus the tiredness left them all. Mahendra baba ji brought and idol of devi with him from there [Syahi Devi] which is in present time safely kept by the right side of Haidakhan babaji's idol at Sambsadashiv kunj. Virandawan (By my father Shri Harikishan Sharma, Lohvan)

A special darshan

Shri Mahendra Baba
Shri Mahendra Baba

Param Guru Shri Mahendra Baba left his body on 23th June, 1969 in Mishri Lal Gupta's house at Haldwani.
After one year, a funeral ceremony was observed at the Shri Ram mandir in Haldwani on that particular day on which Maharaj had left his body. There were a group of devotees (Mishri lal Gupta, shri Shyam Bihari Lal Gaur, Shri Shivcharan Gupta (Vijay Gupta's elder brother) and his Mother, Shri Ramesh Tiwari (Pujari) and his mother smt. Muniya Devi ji, Ramgopal (Postmaster) and his wife smt. kiran Devi, Shri Rameshwar, My Grandfather Shri Badriprasad Sharma, My Grandmother Smt Premvati, my father Shri Hari Kishan Sharma, My mother smt meena Devi, my paternal aunt Smt Gayetri devi, Savitri Devi kumudbasni, Uncle Shri Ashok Sharma ) present at that time.

After this gathering they planned to go Haidakhan. But Gautam Ganga river had been flooded due to the last night rainfall. A group of devotees (around 25-30 people) were prepared for this journey. When they went through the river, almost flooded, a truck came from Haldwani and was seen passing thru the river. As the truck was completely vacant, they requested to the truck driver to pick them up into the truck so they can pass the river easily. But the truck driver denied their proposal. A bit later they found the truck was stuck into the middle of the river. The devotees, holding each other's hand, were crossing the river by chanting Haidakhan Babaji's name. The journey was hard but they reached Babaji's place.
They took some rest and everyone was thirsty. Shri Vijay Gupta's elder brother, Sri Shivcharan Gupta ji went for water in the dense forest and when he returned said that there was water there and all drank the fresh water.
After 3 hours, they arrived at Okaldunga. After some rest there it took another 3 hours to reach Herakhan.

At that time Babaji's Dhuni was located in a hut on the place where now Babaji's Samadhi is in Herakhan. The tongs that Munindra Maharaj used were known to be buried there. Some of the devotees were taking rest and others were chanting Haidakhan Babaji's holy name ( kirtan ). It was a night of heavy rain. Around 12 o'clock that night, the devotees were looking towards Mt. Aadi Kailash and suddenly a ball of bright light was seen by Ramesh pujari and my father ( at that time My father Shri Harikishan sharma and Shri Ramesh tiwari were seated near at Dhuna) and then began moving towards the cave. It moved around the cave area and there from that bright orb two figures came out ; one in a form of bearded man and another the form of young man who was dressed in white cloth. By now every was seeing it.
River was overly flooded at that time so nobody could not go the other side of the river to get closer. Seeing the ball of Light the devotees began to say, "Babaji has come. Let's begin Kirtan." This Divine incident had been continued till 3 am. The whole atmosphere was filled with pure happiness Another day, they arranged a Bhandara, religious eating feast ceremony ( with halwa and puri ). Not long after Shri Haidakhan Baba ji appeared in the cave at Mt. Aadi Kailash.

Fire, water and earth

Shri Haidakhan Baba

In 1970, a week after Babaji's Siddheshwar Yatra, my father, after obtaining Babaji's permission, returned home to Achhnera. Later my family, that is, my grandfather Badriprasad, grandmother Premvati, my mother Minadevi, uncle Ashok, paternal aunt Gayatri devi and Savitri devi - went to Haidakhan starting the journey from Haldwani through Ukhaldunga. When they arrived in Ukhaldunga it was already night so they were somewhat frightened because the place was completely unknown so they started praying to Babaji and at that moment a girl of about 12 years old arrived and said: "Are you all going to Haidakhan? I am also going there. I will show you the right way to Haidakhan. " Then she started walking and everyone followed her. Their mind felt a great relief and they thought that divine power had come to show them the path. It was almost 9:00 pm when they reached the Haidakhan Ashram; now their mind was in a state of peace but when they looked for the girl, she was gone (probably vanishing from there). They stayed in Haidakhan for a week and when they went to Babaji to get permission, he said to them, "I am going to Vrindavan. You will all come with me." So they went to Vrindavan Samba Sadashiv Kunj from Kathgodam Express. In Vrindavan Babaji's yatra came out of Samba Sadashiv Kunj on an elephant. They stayed there for 15-20 days. Later my father asked him where he wanted to go and Babaji replied, "Wherever Mahendra Babaji has gone." Then my father asked him again, "How many times will you live?" and Babaji said, "I will be 12-14 years old and then I will mix with fire, water and earth." (Harikishan, Lohvan, Mathura)

The Guardian

Shri Haidakhan Baba

Navaratri would begin on September 20, 1971 and in the month preceding its commencement, Babaji left Vrindavan to reach Kathgharia. The ashram was in a bad state, full of dirt and many devotees practiced karma yoga by cleaning up the entire ashram. Many devotees came from all over and my father Harikishan also stayed there for a month. The complete program consisted of reading Devi Bhagwat, kirtans and satsang, mainly of Shri Vishnu Datt Shastriji. When my father arrived, Babaji gave him the job of being a guardian and also handed him a stick. At night, sitting under a Banian tree, my father read the Durga Saptasati, the Punya Smriti and sang the divine mantras written by Shri Mahendra Maharaj and stayed up all night by order of Babaji.
In those days the devotees brought buckets full of milk to Babaji and Babaji said to Natthilal ji (Vaidya): "Here are buckets of milk and Hari is doing his homework all night that he can't get even a little one. amount of milk." Babaji went on to say: "From today you will give Hari a lotha of milk every day." Then Vaidya said to my father: "You should ask me for milk every day because it's Babaji's order." In the evening my father said to Vaidya ji: "It is not possible for me to ask you for milk every day but if you give it to me I will happily accept it". "OK," Vaidya ji replied but one day he forgot to give milk to my father and the next day Babaji said to Vaidya: "Yesterday I sent you 40 liters of milk, what did you do with it?" That milk had not been purchased in any shop but offered by devotees as a gift of devotion to Babaji. The doctor understood that Babaji asked him this because he had forgotten to give milk to my father, (besides, my father had not revealed this fact to anyone!). Vaidya ji told Babaji that the milk was the same amount as usual but the reality was that he had forgotten to give it to my father. Babaji smiled and said, "Don't forget to give Hari milk as long as he lives here, you should give it to him every day."
Later Vaidya Ji told my father that Babaji had asked him to give him milk and promised to take care of it from now on. (Harikishan, Lohvan, Mathura)

The ninth pandit

Shri Haidakhan Baba

On September 20, 1971, before the Navratri ceremony puja, Vishnu Dutt Shashtriji pointed out to Babaji that there were only eight pandits (priests). Babaji said: "You should make Hari the ninth priest. Hari's Sanskrit pronunciation is correct and he can read well." So Vishnu Datt Shashtriji said to my father, "Babaji chose you as the ninth pandit, so read the fourth chapter of the Durga Saptasati in Sanskrit. My father started to recite the slokas and mantras correctly without reading them because he had memorized them. The next day he started the puja and thousands of people came from far away places. Babaji pointed to the point for the havankund, the sacrificial fire ceremony in Kathgharia and said, "Here I performed the yagna (fire ceremony)." When it was excavated there, ashes and old embers of burnt wood were found: it was a 9 day Yagna and during this yagna (fire ceremony), Babaji offered water instead of clarified butter to the sacrificial fire. A saint named Nantin Maharaj, well known in the Kumoun area, came to the yagna. About 1000 people attended this Navaratri in Kathgharia. After the Yagna Babaji went to Herakhan and my father went to his house near Vrindavan. (Harikishan, Lohvan, Mathura)

In front of the court

Shri Haidakhan Baba

Even in those days Babaji was summoned by the district court of Nainital and had to appear before the Navaratri. An MLA had filed a complaint against Babaji for illegal occupation of land and property. The day he had to present himself to Babaji court, he was ready to return to the court and many devotees followed him as Vishnu Dutt Shashtriji, Mishrilal, Devki Nandan Mahashay, Yadram, Jivanlal, Nitthilal, Vaidya and thousands of other devotees and curious. Babaji said to my father: "Hari you won't come and you will stay here to take care of everyone's luggage."
When Babaji was called before the judge, the judge said to Babaji: "You came here with so many people, tomorrow you will come alone, do not bring anyone. The next day, however, many more people arrived from the previous day and once again the judge told him he said he had brought many people with him Babaji replied that he had come without bringing anyone and that they had all come alone.
The judge asked him his name and Babaji replied that he didn't know. The judge went on to ask him who had educated him and Babaji replied that it had been Bhairav Nath Ji. The judge wanted to know about Babaji's qualification and Babaji replied that he had not undertaken traditional education anywhere but that he knew the Vedas.
The judge then asked Babaji, "What is the oldest Veda?" and Babaji replied, "Rig Veda."
The judge said to him, "Now you can go." Later my father learned about all that had happened from Mishra Lal and other devotees who were present. (Harikishan, Lohvan, Mathura)
